When You Call I Put Them All On Hold

NEEDED

ALREADY IN MY POSSESSION

Susanne!

Unfortunately my laptop, affectionately known as "the craptop" or "crappy" for short, has finally gone to computer heaven. By the end of it it had:

1 permenant black thumb print in the upper centre of the screen.
1 large crack running from the upper centre to the lower right of the screen.
1 corner held together by green painting tape.
1 missing ctrl key.
1 non-functional left mouse button.
1 external wireless card because the original melted.
1 battery that could only hold a 30 minute charge.

It really got to be a pain in the ass and I was pretty much the only person that could actually use because of all the nuances that went along with it, but you know what? I'm going to fucking miss that thing. It had fucking character. But I know now that it's in a better place, frollicking in laptop heaven, computing in a binary code meadow.

Fuck, I'm weird. It's collecting dust on my desk. I will miss it and it's faded Stomp Records sticker though.

But yea, I haven't really been able to write out stuff since I've been using my family's desktop in the mean time. Fortunately I have a new one on the way, so full length, me rambling about positivity and life and music will resume once I have it in my possession. This situation also impeded my ability to post youtube videos (because this computer sucks), which seems to be the crutch of this fucking thing.

So soon I'll be at school putting off work with a new laptop. Expect blogs pour out by the thousands.

Um, yea.

Ps. Weezer's da best. And not just because of this.

Try To Not Be Awkward, I Know You Just Wanna Drink

TWO THINGS:

1. The sort of serious music one:
Go here. This site does sort-of interviews with bands about their songs. They write out all the lyrics and then the songwriter explains why and how they wrote it, where the inspiration came from, etc. I find this to be really fucking cool. I absolutely love reading all the stories behind my favourite songs, so this obviously appeals to me. The bands featured fucking rule too (Lemuria, Shook Ones, Make Do And Mend, Touche Amore, it goes on).

That's really one of the big reasons I love Less Than Jake so much. Nearly every song has a rad little anecdote tied into it, that when known, makes the song that much better (ex: 9th at Pine off "Losing Streak" is about Vinnie and Mike Park (Skankin' Pickle, on tour with them at the time) seeing a fight outside their show. Vinnie wonders to himself if he is the type of guy to go in and break up a fight between two kids who he's never met before in his life or just leave it because he doesn't know them and doesn't care. He ended up breaking up the fight). Come to think of it, Vinnie mentioned that he is putting out a book of all these little anecdotes at the end of the year and I forgot about that until now and could not be more stoked about it.

Got a little derailed there, but uh yea, go read about some bands I like making songs at that link.

Second thing:

Probably up there as the best site of all time. You all know you've seen hours and hours of "who's the father?" "are you cheating on me?" "my child is OUT OF CONTROL" and still end up watching about five minutes when flipping through the tv. Just a perfect way to capture that train-wreck of a tv show.

You Stayed There The Whole Semester

Last night I saw The Dopamines. They fucking ruled and that's to be expected because Expect The Worst is definitely one of the best albums of the year.

BUUUUUUUUUTTTT, this band Sabertooth opened the show. They absolutely fucking ripped. Got up and played some poppy-throwback hardcore in the tightest and most awesome way possible. Usually openers that you don't know for shows turn out to be a let down, but it's a really pleasant surprise when they turn out to be something original and dudes who want to play music (as opposed to guys who "want to be in a band", if you get what I'm saying). They seemed like really awesome, nice and down to earth guys too. The guitar player must have thanked me at least five separate times for buying one $10 t-shirt and said bye at the end of the show.

Fucking check them out and support them, because hard-working, honest bands are in short supply.

Oh, and Crime In Stereo broke up. Pretty bummed about that. Going to blast The Troubled Stateside and ...Is Dead all week.

Last sidenote: I fucking hate changing guitar strings! So! Fucking! Much!

It's Only The End Of The World. Again.

So I was just reading through a bunch of my old blog posts (I'm prone to do this all the time. One: I want to check for spelling and grammar. Two: I just like going over the stuff I wrote for some reason.) and came to a conclusion about them: I'm pretty proud of them. I hope this doesn't come off as me being full of my self, but yea, I think they sound semi-intelligent. I've looked at stuff I've written in the past before and just thought "Christ, I was a moron." but that wasn't really the case this time.

Cool, I guess.

Futurama's back. That's pretty rad. When I first started watching the show I didn't think it was anything special, but when it went into syndication I started to really enjoy it. Plus Zapp Branigan is the best.

So hey, I saw this the other day. I would explain it, but the video explains it all in the first 20 seconds. In short, good bands cover songs from a list put together by The AV Club. This one is Superchunk (who I love) covering "Inbetween Days" by The Cure (who I love, also my favourite song by the band and posted here earlier). Superchunk is one of the original indie-rock bands from the 90's and they really got it right. I wish I had a voice like that. They do an awesome version of one of my favourite tunes.

I'm also really stoked on The Smoking Popes lately but for some godforsaken reason the family desktop, which I'm using while my laptop is out of commission, gets an F in copy and pasting so no video.

So yea, listen to "Need You Around".

But the Superchunk cover first, because it rules so hard.

I Promised I'd Never Grow Up, That's Why I Never Did

So Blogger made this new stats thing that can show you all this shit about how many people go to your blog, how they get to your blog, which posts they read, etc. I think it's really rad and extremely interesting.

Like I suspected, a ton of the visits for this thing are via the link posted on my facebook profile. Cool, you guys know how much of a moron I am. Thanks for checking it out regardless of that.

I got a ton of traffic from people searching for Wonder Years downloads and Wonder Years lyrics. In fact my most read post is the one that is just copy and past of the shpeal that accompanied "The Upsides" from the band. I like this because it shows there is an interest in a band that I love a lot. One thing though. Instead of downloading their album you should really buy it. One: It's a fucking rad album, definitely my favourite of the year. Two: The band went through something like 4 vans and a trailor in one month and are still making it out on tour. They're in gross debt, you should help that.

Not surprisingly, essentially all of my readers are from Canada, with few from the States. That's cool. There was one from Russia. Hey dude from Russia!

I realize that nobody really cares about this except for me, but I really enjoyed looking at it. It was stuff that I wondered about, y'know.

Alright here you go:

Live It Out rules. They found me on twitter and I really like their jams. Living With Lions/Lifetime/Saves The Day type pop-punk but with gruffer vocals and a little more on the hardcore side. They're brand new and I can't wait for more stuff from them.
